A keffiyeh, also known as a kufiya, ghutra or shemagh, is a traditional Middle Eastern headdress that is typically worn by men in the Arab world, particularly in countries like Palestine, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. It consists of a large square piece of cloth, usually made from cotton, that is folded into a triangle and then draped over the head and shoulders.
The keffiyeh serves various purposes and can be worn in different styles. It provides protection from the sun and can help keep the wearer cool in hot, arid climates.
The distinctive pattern of the keffiyeh, often black and white, is a symbol of cultural identity and has become a symbol associated with the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and the broader Arab identity. However, it's important to note that the keffiyeh is a traditional and cultural garment with a rich history that goes beyond its modern political symbolism.
In an inspiring display of solidarity with the people of Palestine, a unique fashion trend has emerged in Singapore, blending cultural elements in a symbol of support. Singaporean ladies have found a meaningful way to express their support for Palestinians by adopting the "ghutra hijab."
In a beautiful fusion of cultures, Singaporean women have embraced the ghutra and adapted it as a hijab, a headscarf worn by Muslim women as part of their modest dress code. This creative fusion allows Singaporean women to express their empathy, solidarity, and support for the Palestinian people. It signifies a powerful message of unity and understanding that transcends borders and cultures.
The ghutra hijab has not only become a fashion statement but also a symbol of shared humanity. By wearing this unique blend of Palestinian and Singaporean cultures, Singaporean women can show their support for the Palestinian cause while also promoting cross-cultural understanding and solidarity in their own community.
It serves as a powerful reminder that, despite geographical differences, cultural diversity, and unique identities, people from all around the world can come together to support a just and peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflicts in Palestine.
If you'd like to show support for Palestine, you may get your shawls here.
Dua for Palestine
]]>O Allah, the Most Merciful and Most Just, we pray for the people of Palestine who are facing immense hardships and challenges. Bring peace, safety, and justice to their land. Strengthen their hearts, grant them patience, and shower them with Your blessings. We pray for the well-being of the innocent, for their suffering to end, and for their rights to be recognized and respected. May the world come together in support of peace and a just resolution to the conflicts in the region.Guide the leaders and nations involved in these matters towards a path of compassion and understanding. Let the voices of peace be heard over those of violence.O Allah, protect and bless the people of Palestine and grant them the strength to endure and rebuild. We ask for Your guidance and mercy in these trying times. Ameen.
A group gathered in front of the French Embassy protests against the ban on abaya [long dress] in schools in France in Vienna, Austria. / Photo: @baraabolat
In France, the start of the school year has brought with it a significant change in dress code for some students. While crop tops and short shorts remain permissible, the traditional long tunic worn by Muslim women, known as the abaya, has been banned in French middle and high schools. The ban was recently upheld by France's highest court, sparking intense debate and protest.
The decision to forbid the abaya was announced by France's education minister, Gabriel Attal, just before the school year commenced. He emphasized the importance of secularism in schools, stating that educational institutions should be inclusive and free from religious identifiers or pressure to wear religious attire. However, this move has stirred controversy, with critics accusing the government of policing clothing choices and diverting attention from more pressing issues within the education system.
Opponents of the ban, including left-wing feminist parliamentarian Clementine Autain, have criticized Attal for creating what they perceive as a distraction from fundamental problems such as teacher shortages and rising school supply costs. Despite these criticisms, a majority of the French population, around 80%, support the abaya ban, according to polls. This widespread support reflects the deeply ingrained value of secularism in French society, alongside principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity.
The debate surrounding the abaya ban has been a focal point in numerous TV talk shows, where experts and commentators have explored the nuances of secularism in France. Some argue that the ban is a necessary response to acts of terrorism and violence, such as the tragic beheading of a middle school teacher, Samuel Paty, in 2020. President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the connection between outward displays of religion, particularly Islam, and acts of extremism, stating that there can be no compromise on secularism in schools.
However, voices like Samia Essabaa, a veteran teacher from a Muslim-majority neighborhood in the Paris suburbs, challenge the notion that the abaya is purely religious attire. According to Essabaa, some students wear the abaya for practical reasons, such as avoiding comments from peers or concealing their clothing due to body image concerns. She suggests that individual schools should have the autonomy to address their students' clothing choices, based on their understanding of the students' needs and backgrounds.
Essabaa's perspective highlights concerns that the nationwide ban on abayas could alienate young people, potentially making them susceptible to anti-secular influences. The ongoing debate underscores the complexity of balancing religious freedom, personal expression, and national security in a diverse and multicultural society like France.
The rise of Islamophobia in many countries worldwide, including France, has become a cause for concern. Bolat, an advocate for religious freedom, emphasized the alarming increase in anti-Islamic sentiments globally. He specifically pointed out France's policies, citing them as anti-Islamic and restrictive, especially concerning women's access to education and their right to wear religious attire like abayas or hijabs.
In recent weeks, French Education Minister Gabriel Attal announced a controversial decision: students wearing traditional overgarments, specifically abayas, would not be permitted to attend classes in the new school year. This move drew significant criticism and sparked a backlash against the government. France has been under scrutiny for its statements and policies that many perceive as targeting Muslims, including raids on mosques and charitable foundations. Additionally, an "anti-separatism" law has imposed wide-ranging restrictions on the Muslim community.
Extreme-right politicians in France, like Marine Le Pen, have gone a step further, advocating for even broader restrictions. Le Pen, who was the runner-up to President Emmanuel Macron in the last presidential election, campaigned for banning veils not just in schools but also in public spaces.
The ban on abayas in schools has also drawn international attention. The US Commission on International Religious Freedom recently stated that the ban was a deliberate attempt to "intimidate" the Muslim minority. This criticism highlights the global concern regarding the restriction of religious practices and the impact it has on minority communities, emphasizing the need to address Islamophobia and protect religious freedoms in the 21st century.
Given the complexities of the abaya ban in France, the question of whether it is the right course of action prompts thoughtful consideration. Do you believe France's decision to ban the abaya in schools aligns with the principles of secularism, or do you think it infringes upon religious freedom and personal expression?

Whether you're attending a formal event or enjoying a casual outing, having a selection of versatile abayas can truly elevate your style. Here are five must-have abayas that deserve a spot in every wardrobe.
1. Classic Black Abaya: Timeless Elegance
A black abaya is the cornerstone of any collection. Its universal appeal lies in its simplicity, allowing you to accessorize it for any occasion. Opt for one with exquisite detailing or a unique cut to infuse a touch of modernity while maintaining its traditional charm.

2. Statement Embroidered Abaya: Artistry in Threads
An embroidered abaya adds a touch of artistry to your wardrobe. Whether it's delicate floral motifs or intricate patterns, embroidery brings life to the fabric. These abayas effortlessly transition from daytime gatherings to evening affairs, making you the center of attention wherever you go.
As shown: Riyadh Abaya
What makes the Riyadh Abaya truly exceptional is its meticulous craftsmanship. While the Oriental collection relies on computer embroidery, Riyadh's embroidery is a masterpiece created by skilled artisans' hands. Each stitch is carefully sewn with a unique silvery thread, accentuated with delicate stone handwork, breathing life into the intricate floral patterns.
3. Pastel Perfection Abaya: Subtle Hues, Maximum Impact
Pastel abayas are a delightful departure from the classic black. Soft shades of blush, mint, lavender, and sky blue bring a refreshing twist to your collection. These hues exude elegance and are perfect for daytime events or when you want to embrace a lighter mood.

4. Luxe Abaya: Glamorous Sophistication
If you're aiming for a dash of opulence, contemplate a crinkle or nidha fabric abaya. The texture introduces an element of luxury and coziness, rendering it perfect for cooler seasons and nighttime occasions. Moreover, it's incredibly convenient as it remains wrinkle-free yet exudes glamour the moment you slip it on. Embrace rich jewel tones such as emerald, sapphire, or burgundy to craft a captivating presence, much like our Munirah abaya.

5. Modern Oriental Abaya: Fusion of Tradition and Trend
The modern kimono-style abaya marries tradition with contemporary fashion. Its loose, flowing silhouette and unique design elements provide comfort and a fashion-forward look. This style is perfect for those who seek a blend of cultural heritage and modern aesthetics.

Discover how By Marlena has successfully localized Dubai Abayas to cater to the fashion preferences of Southeast Asian women. With a focus on colors, lacework, and closed designs, By Marlena has tailored its Abayas to suit the hot and humid climate and culture of the region. With an exclusive private label range and personalized shopping experiences, By Marlena is set to become a leading modest fashion brand in the Southeast Asian market.
Dubai Abayas are known for their elegance and beauty, and By Marlena is a company that has successfully brought these exquisite garments to the Southeast Asian region.
However, what sets By Marlena apart is its ability to localize its Abayas to fit the fashion preferences of Singaporeans, Malaysians, and Bruneians. In this blog post, we will explore how By Marlena has tailored its Abayas to the Asian market.
One of the ways that By Marlena has localized its Abayas is through the use of colors. While traditional Dubai Abayas are mostly black, By Marlena has introduced a variety of colors to cater to the preferences of its Asian customers. From soft pastels to vibrant hues, By Marlena's Abayas come in a range of colors that are both stylish and practical for everyday wear.
Another way that By Marlena has localized its Abayas is through the use of lace and other embellishments. While traditional Dubai Abayas are often more towards black-on-black designs and handwork, By Marlena's Abayas feature delicate lacework and other intricate details that add a touch of femininity and elegance.
We've also adapted the traditional open abaya commonly worn in Dubai to create a closed abaya that's more suited to the local climate and culture. In Dubai, the abaya is often worn as an outer layer and left open, but in Asia, many women prefer to avoid layering due to the hot and humid weather.
By creating a closed abaya that's easy to grab and go, we've made it more convenient for women in Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei to wear this traditional garment with comfort and ease.
So why do we call it Abayas & Not "Jubahs"?
By Marlena takes pride in its commitment to tradition, and this extends to the terminology used to describe its garments. While many fashion brands in the region have adopted the term "jubah" to describe their modest garments, By Marlena continues to use the term "abaya."
This is not just a matter of semantics. By Marlena's abayas are designed to fit a range of body types, from petite to tall, which is why they use a unique sizing system based on length. Each size, from 50 to 62, corresponds to the length of the abaya itself, allowing women of different shapes and sizes to find the perfect fit, without alterations.
This sizing system is not commonly used in other modest fashion apparel and is a nod to the traditional methods used in Dubai, where abayas originated. By using the term "abaya" and implementing a unique sizing system, By Marlena is staying true to its roots while also catering to the diverse needs of its customers in Southeast Asia.
How about authentic, Emirati designs?
In addition to localizing its Abayas for the Southeast Asian market, By Marlena also offers a private label range that stays true to traditional Emirati style Abayas. These black Abayas usually feature intricate hand stitching and are only made-to-order based on the customers fit. However, this private label range is only available to By Marlena's Platinum customers, who can access the private lounge at the 37 Bussorah St Boutique in Singapore.
By Marlena's Platinum customers have the added benefit of accessing the private lounge at the 37 Bussorah St boutique. This exclusive space is designed to provide a personalized shopping experience for customers. By Marlena's commitment to exceptional customer service and attention to detail is what sets it apart from other Abaya retailers in the region.
By offering both localized Abayas and authentic Emirati-style Abayas, By Marlena is truly a one-stop-shop for all Abaya needs. This unique approach to Abaya fashion has made By Marlena a popular choice for customers who are looking for the best of both worlds - modern and traditional Abaya designs in one place.

]]>Featuring our guest speaker - Ustazah Bushra, we hope this topic will be beneficial to all our sisters, especially those who know of anyone who's going through this situation.
Here's what we managed to cover :
Although it might not seem like it, divorcees do need support from the people who care about them. People react to situations in different ways. However, sometimes the best place for someone to be is away from an unhealthy relationship. Divorcees should be able to live with dignity and honor their partner's memory by moving on to better things.
Ustazah Bushra
"I'm a divorcee and I'm going to be okay. I won't be ashamed of my status. It was a God-given right to me to get out of a toxic marriage and I'm going to raise my children in the best manner possible."
Shabrina
"I was being divorced when I just gave birth to my second, when he was only 10 days old. He said he didn't have feelings for me anymore and everything went spiralling down from there. While I was trying to hold the fort together and work things out, he was persistent in the divorce."
Have you ever faced any situations where the society judged you?
Shabrina :
Not for myself but judgements towards my kids.
Comments like "Maybe the kids are naughty because the parents are divorced." " Is your daughter ok? Did you went for check up? Did her teacher mention anything?"
As a mother, it was only right for me to be protective of my children and I know, my kids are okay.
Women are seen as having to tolerate everything. At one point we are supposed to pray for the best and have patience. But how long do we have to be patient and stay patient?
Ustazah Bushra :
Everyone's patience limit is different, so it's not fair if someone tells you that you are not patient enough. Divorce is an expensive decision, costing you your home, your children.
Someone once told me ; "you mentioned you liked the dua of Asiyah. Yet you are not patient like her. You should have been more patient."
I gave it a year. Chances after chances and even communication but it all failed.

The divorce didn't hurt me so much but it did hurt me with the children.
Before the divorce happened, I saw Amalia withdrawing herself every time I started to fight with her father. It took us so long for her to come out and started talking to people. So I told my husband, I cannot do this anymore, I didn't want my daughter to suffer.
My ex-husband agreed to the divorce, but he told me he wanted the custody for the kids. I had to agree, because I had no support and this is the only way for me to make sure that my kids are okay.
The hardest decision was to separate from my kids, not because I was going to be divorced because I know there was no possibility of reconciliation.
Ustazah Bushra :
The days leading up to the divorce was a dark tunnel for me. Everyday was bleak and I was constantly bargaining with Allah SWT. "Ya Allah, I know I'm not worthy. I know I'm not good enough, but Ya Allah, please make this work."
I had such a good relationship with my father so I didn't want my son to grow up without a father.
Questions like "Who is bringing him to masjid?" "Who is going to teach him to be an Imam?" came into my mind so I told my ex-husband "the marriage is not working out, so let's just live like housemates."
How did you reach where you are today after the divorce?
MB:
I know Allah loves me. Even though my close family were not supporting me, I had other relatives who Allah sent to me, to take care of me so that I don't stray too far.
How did Allah showed you that divorce was the right thing to do?
Ustazah Bushra:
Allah showed me in so many ways. And what pushed me even more was when this particular incident happen. We were looking for a wedding ring for my brother in law and a lady was asking me "You have such a strong marriage. How do you do it?"
In my heart, only Allah knows. Only Allah knows how broken I was. I wish that what she was talking about, it was my marriage.
So I replied, "be thankful."
To anyone who's going through a difficult phase in your life, know that you are not alone. Talk to someone you trust or seek for help.
Whether you are the one asking for divorce, or you were being divorced, it will affect you either ways. It is however, possible to get through this difficult period, as long as you keep your faith that things will be okay. Divorce is life-changing, but it doesn't have to be tragic. It may require a great adjustment on your part, but if you remain positive and focused, you can come out the other end of your marriage even better than when you entered it.

Today we're excited to review some of the abayas and modest wear on some of the luxury brands:
1. BALENCIAGA
Whilst Balenciaga is facing a fierce backlash arising from the controversial campaign recently, I still wanted to have a first look at the apparels that they offer.
Balenciaga's styles are street, oversized and they do have a lot of layering which do help with modest dressing.
I saw this Balenciaga Roll-Neck Maxi Dress and absolutely love it. Well first and foremost.. because it's black. (For those who knows me - you'd know i love Black).
I love Farasha Abayas / Kaftans like this because it is meant to be worn loose fit with no bust and hips measurements. You'd have to choose it based on your height - which is exactly what Balenciaga offers for this dress.
The turtleneck detailing is one of my favourite necklines because it almost instantly elevates the entire look. No accessories needed, the dress exudes elegance and class on its own. But of course, that's irrelevant if we are wearing the hijab long. But but but, also - actually it helps with us wearing the hijab because it secures and confirms that your neck wouldn't be seen. I'm sure some of you understand the struggle of having a low neck apparel on.
With oversized apparels, you could have two outcomes- a structured look or a more flowy look and this definitely will be the latter. Oh and lastly, it looks really comfortable to me. This is a piece that i would go for dinner dates.
However, at $3,570 - honestly this wouldn't be something i would buy because I don't see any differentiating factor in this piece.
2. DOLCE & GABBANA
Dolce & Gabbana launched their very first abaya collection in 2016. Let's have a quick look at what they offered:
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Their first abaya collection is a lot of play with laces and to be honest, it feels like they just plastered the laces wherever they could put it. There doesn't seem to be any intricacy or detailing in these designs. Aside from the high fashion concept shoot, there is nothing else that makes this looks worth the US$7,000 pricetag.
Dolce, please look into having the lace embroidered onto the fabrics. Perhaps some handwork beadings or swarovski crystals. Of course, it still wouldn't be 'worth it' for the regular muslim women, but at least - a better reason for the premium price.
2019's collection look so much better - because they came out with prints. Screams Dolce & Gabbana, really. Even if i am not a print person, this for me - is much better than the first "cut-and-paste" lace collection.
3. DIOR
Even though they did not market the scarves as hijabs, the Dior Oblique Square Scarf is getting a lot of attention by the Hijabis.
As seen on Neelofa & Ameera Khan - the Dior Oblique scarf is indeed suitable to be worn as a hijab.
Perhaps the scarfs are moving so much quickly now seeing that many luxury brands - such as Prada, Louis Vuitton and Chanel are coming up with more options for these 90 square scarfs.
To be honest, I would go for these scarfs - IF the material was right. Satin silk would something that i would go for but if the material was thicker - somewhat like pashmina, it's something that i would step back from.
These scarfs would be an accessory to quickly elevate your simple outfit.
Now, I'm really excited to see what'll be coming next from these luxury brands. I believe that they are already starting to see the demand in the modest fashion industry and would likely not want to miss the train.
Now the question is.. Would you or would you not spend in luxury brands should they offer products that are hijab-friendly?

]]>In this blog post, we'll cover the different types of abaya and how you can choose the perfect abaya for yourself.
Abaya Types :
Open Abayas
As Abayas are traditionally meant to be worn as an outer garment by the Emiratis, most abayas you find out there are abayas with buttons on the front. You could style it the way you want - with an inner and leave it unbutton (adds a little more "oof" to your style) or, if you prefer have it styled down - use the buttons and cover up. But of course, to ensure modesty, one should wear an inner underneath the open abaya regardless of whether you style it open (unbuttoned) or closed (buttoned)
Closed Abayas
While open abayas are still requested for, it is with no doubt that we receive a higher demand for closed abayas. Closed abayas are the ideal option if you’d like a garment to throw over your other clothing without anything underneath it being revealed. The convenience you get with closed abayas is unmatched.
Batwing Abayas
The batwing abaya could be confused with the Bisht style abayas. They are very similar, but the bisht abaya is wider in the hips area - as a matter of fact, there is no actual bust or hips measurement because of the cut whilst for batwing abaya - you still would have to pay attention to the hips measurement. Generally, Batwing Abayas are still a little wider than the standard cut abayas.
The Bisht abaya was originally inspired by the cloak that Arab Men wear on special occasions. They provide excellent coverage with a loose fitting cut that works well for all body sizes. Bisht abayas, regardless open or closed, are very versatile and you will be able to switch up the look with ease.
The Bisht style abayas are very popular with the Kuwaitis.
Before we move on to telling you which abaya type is suited to which body type, you must first understand your own. Unfortunately, not many of us know what type of body we have but let's share some of what we know!
The different body types :
Rectangle
The rectangle shape is a body type in which the bust, shoulders, and hips are the same widths. Women with this body type have a bit of waist definition.
If you have a rectangle shape, you can wear pretty much anything. However, since your shoulders and hips are similar in size, you want to choose styles that break up the rectangle at the waist with a belt.
Round
The round shape is also known as the apple body type. People with this shape have a bigger bust and narrow hips with no defined waistline. They typically have a fuller midsection.
For round body types, avoid drawing attention to your waist. You need to maintain a balance, so it is best to opt for an abaya style that highlights your shoulders and adds fullness to the bottom of the dress.
Triangle
Also known as the pear shape, this body type features wide hips and narrow busts and shoulders. Women with a pear shape typically have slim arms and full thighs.
Modest dressing for pear body types is about minimizing your hips. If you have a pear shape, you want to highlight your shoulders and draw attention away from your waist and thighs. So, draw focus to your upper body with emphasis on your sleeves because of your slim arms. You will need an abaya with sleeves that flare out from the elbows.
Hourglass
A person with an hourglass shape is considered curvy. This body type consists of equal measurements of the bust and hips with a tiny and well-defined waist.
If you have an hourglass figure, your waist is what you want to highlight when choosing an abaya style. Follow your shape and get abayas with a cinched waistline or with a belt.
Now we have fully explained the different body types and abayas. Ultimately, it all comes down to you and what you are comfortable in. Tell us, which is your favourite type of abaya?
]]>As a Muslimah I often ask myself this question; where do I find the best innerwear to suit my lifestyle as a mother? Be it shawl inners to abaya inners, here are our top picks for Singapore's weather.
BEST SCARF INNER-WEAR
Let us start with scarf inners. Diyana Halik's Ninja inners are hands-down, one of the best inners and this can be vouched by both Mumboss and myself!
DH scarf inners offers full coverage of the head and neck area, but at the same time it doesn't wrap around your neck tightly unlike some other ninjas out there. In fact, it is really airy despite the full coverage.
They're made with premium cotton lycra, a super comfortable material. Plus, It doesn't really move or cause my hijab to slip.
With a toddler and infant in tow, I do find that these inners allow me to move and carry my babies easily. Yes, they'll pull and mess up my hijab but at least I am rest assured that no skin is showing on my neck when they do so.
The scarf inners are sold individually in a variety of colours (they're always sold out for the good colours so you need to be fast!) or you can even get them in a set. And if you do get them, let us know! We love when good things are shared.
You can purchase their shawl inner on their website: https://www.diyanahalik.com/collections/scarf-inner
BEST LONGSLEEVE INNERWEAR
Truth be told, I am not a white person. I don't wear white blouses for the fear of it being translucent and because I don't really like to wear layers. Anyone here with me?
But, we cannot totally avoid it altogether because there will definitely be times when we have to follow a certain colour code or perhaps sometimes there are tops that are just so pretty to resist ( Read: Serra. Hehe)
So I've quite recently found a super light long sleeve inner that is super comfortable: The Uniqlo AIRism UV Protection Long Sleeve T-shirt. Ok, to be honest the UV protection is a bonus to me. But what's more important was when I touched it... it was ice cool. Just unbelievably soft and cool.
They've got different types of necklines either scoop neck or turtle neck (good for those who don't like to wear ninja inners or wear turban style shawls). Just be sure you're going for the AIRism range and NOT the Heattech ya. They may look very similar, but they've got different functions ;-)
The only downside I would have to add is that nursing mummies will not be able to wear this because they're not nursing friendly.
Another tip I would like to share is the colour of your innerwear. Especially for White Tops, I highly recommend to go for Light Grey Inners to block out the light and silhouette best. Never go for white inners underneath white tops.
Here's a quick link to the Long Sleeve Inners: https://www.uniqlo.com/sg/en/women/uv-protection/tops
BEST ABAYA INNER
Abayas or Dresses, you name it. Sometimes they can be sheer and it could be a really important deciding factor when you're purchasing an outfit.
Most abayas would require an inner because it of the natural characteristic of the fabric used- Nidha. In UAE, traditionally abayas are meant to be worn as an outer wear over the homewear.
But here in hot and humid Singapore, many of us shy away from two-piece Abaya or when we need to have an inner for it because... simply said "LECEH"
Well, not when you have a really comfortable paper-light inner. Right here, right infront of you. The Crinkle Silk Inner can be found here.
By Marlena has been bringing in our inners since 2017 specially for abayas when we realised our community or well, here in Singapore we do not have anything of that sort. Our new short sleeve sleeve inners are 100% comfortable and will make you forget that you are even wearing it in the first place.
In addition to this, mummies.. you can look forward to having it in your wardrobe because we've made the inners nursing friendly too.
We're currently sold out for our long sleeve inners but you can look forward to its restock very soon.
You can view all available colours here: https://www.bymarlena.com/collections/innerwear
BEST PANTS UNDERNEATH DRESSES
If you have joined in our LIVE sessions, you probably would have heard Mumboss or myself saying "We highly recommend you to wear pants underneath your Abaya/Dresses"
It is a practice for us as well because personally I would never leave the house without pants underneath my dresses/abaya. This is because no matter how opaque your dress is, under sunlight- there will be that silhouette showing through.
Please note that I mentioned "Pants" and not leggings simply because the leggings will follow the shape of our legs hence it will still show the silhouette under light. At the same time, sometimes there will be static against the material of the leggings and your dress and it sort of "clings" on to the leggings, showing the shape of your legs. I don't really know how to explain this but if you've experienced it then you would know what I mean. HAHA!
So best best best option is to wear straight cut pants! I have no specific places where you can get this but the closest style I would recommend is our pleated pants - the pants should look something like that minus the pleats.
A place I can think of is the Geylang Serai Market on the second floor. There is an "Aunty" there selling all types of inners and i got mine from there. I can't remember the shape specifically but if you see a shop with all types of innerwear, then that must be it. Ask for the pants and you choose the material to your liking!
I really hope this helps.
All of us have different body types and all of them are equally beautiful. It does not matter if you are lean or bulky, but it is very important to understand your body type when you choose your innerwear. Remember to always choose comfortability over aesthetic as innerwear need to gives you a breathing space as well as help keeping our modesty.
]]>1. IRONLESS
Have you ever needed to head out for a short while but feel very very lazy to pick out your outfit and iron them?
Have you ever needed to dress up for an event but find that you're not in the mood for dressing up but still you know you have to look good and presentable?
This is why you need an ironless dress that you can just pull out, out on and yet look stunning in.
It is undeniable that the love for Hayla is due to it's ironless feature. Yes, you really don't have to iron your Hayla even after you wash them. Simply make sure that you immediately take them out of the washing machine once it's done and hang them (with a hanger) to dry. This should straighten out all of the creases. It really is that easy!
2. MACHINE-WASHABLE
It may come as a surprise that Hayla is machine washable. Most abayas, especially those with handwork may require you to handwash or perhaps, even dry-clean. However, Hayla is that abaya which you can just "throw" in the machine, hang to dry immediately and wear it out again.
Another plus point? It dries quite quickly too. This is a feature of the nidha fabric that we use for Hayla.
A great tip would be to put your Hayla in the laundry bag separately and make sure you keep your washing load half-full.
3. COMFORTABLE
To me, this is one of the top requirements before I purchase anything. IT HAS TO BE COM-FOR-TABLE. IT HAS TO BE.
The Hayla is made with Nidha fabric. Nidha fabric is a polyester blend which is widely used in making Abayas in the UAE. It is very comfortable and cooling to be worn by the Emirati ladies under the scorching hot sun there hence it is suitable for our climate here in Singapore.
Plus, all of our customers who have touched and felt nidha has commended on how cooling the material is. Also, From some of our customers who have eczema, they have mentioned how this material does not irritate their skin. Yay!
You can be rest assured that you'll feel comfortable in Hayla all day long.
4. SLIMMING
We used to think that “hey.. pleats are going to make me look big.”
Good news. Hayla does the exact opposite. It lengthens the wearer making you look taller and ultimately slimmer.
5. NURSING FRIENDLY
As a nursing mummy myself, I find it disappointing when I find something nice at the store and unfortunately - I can't wear because it's not nursing friendly. Hence we have ensured that most of our designs - including hayla can cater to nursing mummies.
Hey, we should be able to look good too! The zips are hidden so for those who do not need them, it will not affect the aesthetics, Insha allah.
6. WUDHU FRIENDLY
As a long-term abaya wearer, I know that abayas generally have wide sleeves and that's something that we Singaporeans find a hassle too. You prefer something slim cut with a zip so that you can easily pull the sleeves up or even cuffs to ensure that the sleeves hold up on your arm to prevent it from getting wet during wudhu.
Personally I perspire quite easily (Especially in Singapore, hellooo?) and I have tried to wear handsocks with my hayla 1.0 previously but I find that it slips off quite easily or perhaps I just haven't found the right type of hand socks that would fit me best.
That's why we came up with Hayla 2.0 that comes with the inner sleeves so you needn't worry about having to wear handsocks! It also is easy for you during wudhu as you can roll your sleeves up together with the inner which will hold them in place!
7. VERSATILE
Wear it out on a casual day, to work or for special occasions. Your hayla will fit all events! Pair your Hayla with lace (V3.0) up with a long statement necklace and a bag for that wedding invitation or simply put on your Hayla 2.0 for a quick errand.
