6 Different Types of Abaya

Assalamualaikum,

Personally I feel that Abaya is a MUST in a Muslimah's wardrobe. Why?

It is the MOST convenient and flexible apparel that one should not go without.

Pull it over your pajamas or stay-at-home clothes out to do errands or slip into your Abaya and head over to your Anniversary Dinner. You'll look like you've spent hours getting ready when it only took seconds.

Stop wasting time thinking about what pants and shawl to wear with that top. Worry not about your pants being too tight and showing off your legs. Stay comfortable, Stay kempt.

Here are 5 Different Types of Abaya if you havent seen them:

1. The Closed Abaya

The closed Abaya is traditional and simple. There is no front buttons. For some, it is a more convenient option - no need to wear pants, just perhaps tights underneath.

+ Easy to Slip into

+ Ease of mind because you don't worry about buttons coming off

+ Flaunt it for any occasion

- Only 1 way of styling the Abaya

- Not breast-feeding friendly.

- For some, your movement might be restricted depending on the cut of the Abaya

2. The Open Button Abaya

The open button abaya, as the name goes comes with buttons along the front. This is a more popular option with the following reasons:

+ Breast-feeding friendly

+ Flaunt it for any occasion

+ Flexibility of styling more than 1 options

+ Your steps/movement is not restricted.

- Buttons may start to loosen overtime, requiring you to sew it back

- You'll need to wear a proper pants, not only leggings as it will show off your legs as you walk. (if its a half button abaya)

3. The Abaya Cardi

The Abaya Cardi comes with no front buttons, making it akin to a cardi. Depending on the design, it may or may not come with the belt/sash.

+ One of the more modern designs #intrend

+ Flaunt it for any occasion

+ Gives you the flexibility of dressing it the way you like it - with pants/ skirt/dresses

+ Breast-feeding Friendly

+ No worries about buttons coming off

- More effort required - you need to wear a top and bottom under the Abaya

4. The Kimono

The Kimono Abaya is so similar to the Abaya Cardi except that it is inspired like the Japanese Kimono where one side crosses over the other and it comes with a sash.

+ One of the more modern designs #intrend

+ Flaunt it for any occasion

+ Gives you the flexibility of dressing it the way you like it - with pants/ skirt/dresses

+ Breast-feeding Friendly

+ No worries about buttons coming off

- More effort required - you need to wear a top and bottom under the Abaya

5. The Draped Abaya

Inspired from the Grecian draped gowns comes a new twist in Abaya design. Very comfortable design, it allows the wearer free movement especially with the soft flowy fabric that just glides on your skin. With motives of flower prints on one side of the abaya, you will definitely stand out beautifully.

+ One of the more modern designs #intrend

+ Only leggings to go with this Abaya

+ No worries about buttons coming off

- One way of styling it

- Not Breast-feeding Friendly

- More for special occasions

6. The two piece Abaya

This is hands-down the most value-for-money Abaya because it's a 2-in-1 Abaya! You can wear it both ways like a closed Abaya or an Abaya Cardi. As the inner is already sewed to the Abaya, you can just slip your hand into the armhole and you're ready to go with your jeans etc.

+ One of the more modern designs #intrend

+ Only leggings to go with this Abaya (if worn as closed abaya)

+ Flaunt it for any occasion

+ Flexibility of styling it

+ Breast-feeding Friendly (if worn as abaya cardi)
